Earth and Fire, Deering Estate Exhibition

2/25/2016

This year my pieces were accepted into the Ceramic League Members' Deering Estate Exhibition. The Deering Estate is a historic site here in Miami with a beautiful house and gardens.I had never been to the estate before and visited for the first time during the show reception. My favorite part was how they utilized the space to displayed the work. Even though my pieces were displayed on one of the few pedestals, they actually used the furniture they keep on exhibit inside the house to display most of the ceramic work.  Making it feel like you had stepped back in time into a house of a ceramic enthusiast.

The exhibit will be on display daily, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from February 06 – March 25, 2016, and is free with Estate admission.

The pieces for the show were actually my first ever Raku fired pieces. A bit different from my usual color palette but something I would like to continue exploring.

My supporting husband and friends that came for the show opening even though it was on a Wednesday night.  Thanks guys, I felt the love!

On the Surface: Clay Decoration-The perfect start to a mini ceramics reunion

12/31/2013

I'm very excited to announce that I will be in the upcoming exhibition On the Surface: Clay Decoration at Morean Arts Center in St. Peterburgs, FL. One of the best parts about being in this exhibition is the fact that my great friends and fellow UF alumni Jeffrey Sincich and Josh Stover, and our friend Cheyenne Rudolph a current UF MFA candidate are all in the exhibition as well.

As soon as we found out we were all in the exhibition, we could not pass the opportunity to make the opening reception a perfectly good reason to have a mini ceramics reunion. So I'm driving up from Miami, Josh is driving up from West  Palm, Jeffrey lives in town and our friend Marie Pashkevich (who graduated as Art Ed from UF but took all the ceramics classes along with us) is driving down from Gainesville. I actually haven't seen Marie in over a year since she just got back from volunteering in Africa this past year. Needless to say, this is going to be a very sweet reunion.

The show will be on from January 10th to February 23, 2014. Opening reception is Jan. 10th 2014 5-8pm at Morean Arts Center, 719 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL. If you get a chance you should definitely check it out.

To coincide with the Train Station Center for Clay's Florida Heat Firing Symposium: SURFACE, the Morean showcases the work of artists who push the limits of surface decoration in ceramics.  From colorful mugs to textured sculpture, 24 artists from 11 states demonstrate the versatility of the medium.

On view in Stanley and Everett Galleries
